Ajuntament de Barcelona Barcelona International Community Day

Inputs & Insights

Barcelona is an open, cosmopolitan city that is home to nearly 288,000 foreign residents who make up 11.8% of the city’s population (2017 registry). This group comprises people with talent, training and innovative entrepreneurial initiatives. These people have the potential to enrich and bring diversity to our economy.

The Barcelona City Council through the City Promotion Directorate holds a yearly event to attract and retain the international talent in the city. The event aims to be a meeting point to welcome, inform and share the services and resources of interest to the city’s international community.

Strategy & Ideas

We have organised the Barcelona ICD events for the past five years. We created a full programme of activities and conferences; came up with the concept for, created and produced a fair-type space with various booths; scouted for sponsors and raised awareness of the event.

Output & Performance

Noteworthy figures from the 2018 edition:

  • Nearly 5,000 people attended
  • 74 booths with exhibitors
  • 31 classes and panel discussions
  • 76 speakers
  • 13 entertainment and cultural activities
  • S5 networking sessions

In recent years, we have doubled the number of participants, boosted the number of exhibitors by 40% and increased the conferences and activities carried out.
